Description
On a long summer evening in the west, as the sun is near to setting, the long shadows highlight the distinctive field divisions. Originally known in Old Irish as Dumhaigh Thuama, the ‘sounding sandy banks’, then as Gaeilge as Dumha Thuama, it has now been anglicised as Doohoma.
It is a lively and vibrant place that has never lost the connection with the previous generation that were forced to emigrate. As a result it is far more connected to the wider world than communities that were not so badly hit by emigration.
